Eva Cervantes

Eva, a miner, became a union organizer in her hot-headed youth. Believing that workers deserved fair treatment, wages, etc. and also believing that no one would take care of it if she didn’t, she formed the Miner’s Coalition in 2052. She started by ranting to fellow workers; eventually word of and agreement with her ideas spread throughout Greer and people called for her to make public speeches, to give them a plan of action, to get something done. Shortly after starting the Miner’s Strike in May of 2053, Eva started receiving anonymous threats to back off, mostly in the form of letters attached to her lunchbox. In July of 2053, she received an explicit telegram where it was suggested that she get out of town or she’d soon be literally eating her own shoes.

Eva wasted no time in high-tailing it out of town with her husband, Julian, and their two children. Arriving in Newton in the beginning of August, she found there was a position of Militia Commander that required filling. While Eva had no soldiering experience, she did have a proven knack for organizing and taking charge of large groups of people. And indeed, Eva took to the position quite nicely. She has developed a solid working relationship with Anders to quell any sort of threat to Newton's safety and order. As time wears on, she is beginning to see that Newton is on the road for progress and Eva is starting to feel as though her grasp of control is once again not as firm as she would like. Fearing the loss of her position, Eva is prepared to do whatever it takes to secure her position and keep her family safe.

Eva’s relationship with William Newton has been primarily a professional one. She has a deep respect for him as a man of focus and accomplishment. She admires the ease with which he has run Newton and is also slightly envious that he succeeded, while she did not.
